Lessons from the trenches: Week ending November 19, 2011

Lesson 1: Channel Dwayne Schneider, “Always remember, and please never forget”

. . .  bad judges make for good appellate records

. . . sometimes the good guys have trouble coming to terms with a job not so well done–forgive them, in the long run they do more good than harm

. . . nothing irritates the system more than an innocent defendant who refuses to endorse a guilty verdict

. . . if you insist on representing “the irritating,” budget for sanctions

. . . expect everything to take longer than it should, and then double it

Lesson 2: Channel Dennis the Menace: “I’ve never had so much fun as I’m going to have tomorrow!”  (Sometimes, the really funny part of our work doesn’t hit us until the ride home.)

Lesson 3:  Channel Mother Teresa and do it anyway: “In the final analysis, it is between you and the Divine.  It was never between you and them anyway.”
